Memorial Day Parade in Honesdale
Line up starts at 9:00 AM, Parade steps off at 10:00 from North Main Street and proceeds down Main Street to Church Street ending with a ceremony in Central Park. Immediately following that ceremony, there is a program at Veterans Park on Fair Avenue.

June 1st
Cortez United Methodist Church "Run for Fun" Motorcycle Run
Registration from 11:00 a.m. to noon beginning at Cruiser World in Hamlin and will end at the Salem Masonic Lodge Picnic Grove, Rte 191 Hamlin. Pa. The Wayne County Commissioners and the Wayne County Prison Board will hold an official dedication ceremony for the new Wayne County Correctional Facility, 44 Mid-Wayne Drive (off of Route 6) Indian Orchard. The Wayne County Historical Society is inviting its members and friends to the Grand Opening of its new addition, the John and Helen Villaume Wing, on Saturday and Sunday, May 17 and 18, 2008. The museum will be open 10 am to 4 pm on Saturday and 12 to 4 pm on Sunday, with the ribbon-cutting ceremony scheduled for 11 am on Saturday. A walking tour of downtown Milford that illustrates the many contributions to the community made by the prominent Pinchot family since the 1800’s is planned for Saturday, May 17, beginning at 1:30 pm. To help volunteer organizations provide safe food, Pike County Cooperative Extension is offering a workshop, "Cooking for Crowds: A Volunteer's Guide to Safe Food Handling." Participants in this 3 hour workshop will learn up-to-date methods for safely handling and preparing food for large groups. The workshop is appropriate for non-profit food providers such as churches, fire companies, schools, and civic groups. "Cookng for Crowds" will be offered on May 22, 2008 at the Blooming Grove Fire Hall, from 6-9 PM. The cost of the workshop is $20.00 per organization for one person AND $5.00 for each additional person from the same organization. The Wayne Pike Chapter of the American Red Cross is sponsoring Lay Responder Adult CPR with AED (Automated External Defibrillator) training . The purpose of the Lay Responder course is to help the general public overcome any reluctance to act in an emergency situation. Nature Tales: Acorns To Trees. 10-11am, Wallenpaupack Environmental Learning Center. Wayne County Genealogy Group meeting 4:30pm in the research library of the Wayne County Historical Society. The discussions are not confined to Wayne County ancestors but focus on techniques for tracing family history in general. Beginners and experienced researchers are welcome. The Wayne County Library (in conjunction with the PA Humanities Council) will host the first in a three part summer series called "Learn, Love and Laugh" at 6:00 pm. A Commonwealth Speaker, Joe Becton, will present, "The Black Soldier in the Civil War." History buffs won't want to miss this. Joe appears in authentic 19th century garb and uses an array of techniques to identify the causes of the Civil War, reveal the conditions of camp life and explore the reality of war. He will demonstrate period equipment and use music, poetry, and question & answer to bring the Civil war period to life. Pleasant Mount Emergency Services will host their first Chicken BBQ of the year starting at noon. Dinners will include a half BBQ chicken, baked potato, baked beans, cabbage salad and a cupcake. Antique motorcycles, trucks, tractors, and cars are being sought for the 3rd Annual “Antiques on Wheels” parade which is being planned for Sunday, June 1 at 1:00 pm in Honesdale. The parade is part of the Greater Honesdale Partnership’s “Arts, Crafts & Antiques Weekend”, and is sponsored in part by Gregory’s Auto Service, Krempasky Equipment, Baer Sports Center, and B&B Dodge. Island Geocaching, 4-6pm, Wallenpaupack Environmental Learning Center . Learn how to geocache by going on a real-life treasure hunt to Epply Island on Lake Wallenpaupack. Enjoy a nice, relaxing boat ride out to the island while learning the basics of this fun outdoor activity. Bring a GPS unit if you have one. Some will be available to borrow. Diakon Children's Bereavement Program will hold Camp Evergreen Weekend June 20 through 22 at Camp Kresge in White Haven. This free weekend camp is designed to help children and adolescents deal with the loss of a loved one by encouraging them to express their feelings with others their age who are experiencing the same feelings. This is done in an atmosphere of fun and friendship and under the guidance and supervision of bereavement counselors and adult volunteers. The camp is open to children and teenagers ages eight to 14 who are coping with the death of a loved one. It is free of charge. Campers stay in cabins furnished with bunk beds and bathroom facilities. Meals and snacks will be provided. Registration for Camp Evergreen Weekend is required by today. Relay for Life, Delaware Valley High School, Saturday 10am - Sunday 10am. Highlights of the Relay include a dinner at 6:30 p.m., May 31, for cancer survivors and their caregivers. Later, at dusk, a luminaria will feature candles dedicated to loved ones who have passed away, and survivors will walk a lap around the track.

June 1
The 6th Annual Pike County Family Community Expo, sponsored by the United Way of Pike County, will be held rain or shine from 1-4:30 pm in the Speers Lodge at YMCA Camp Speers-Eljabar, located on Nichecronk Road off Route 739 in Dingmans Ferry. Admission to the Expo is free. Exhibitors will include early childhood care providers, social service agencies, and other medical, non-profit and community organizations. In addition, there will be free pony rides provided by Camp Speers-Eljabar and free entertainment from local children’s groups. Refreshments will be offered for a small fee by Camp Speers-Eljabar.
